What is the Swiss Sustainable Construction Standard (SNBS)?
The Swiss Sustainable Construction Standard (SNBS) is a Swiss sustainability standard developed specifically for the construction and real estate sector. It pursues the goal of designing buildings holistically and environmentally friendly in order to ensure sustainable added value over the entire life cycle of buildings. This standard covers ecological, economic and social aspects that are tailored to Swiss conditions and needs. The SNBS is thus aimed at builders, planners and property owners who want to increase the value of their properties by complying with the standards and target environmentally conscious buyers in a targeted manner.
Benefits of the SNBS for real estate
By complying with the SNBS standard, real estate salesman highlight their buildings in a more sustainable way. They show potential buyers that they are implementing environmentally responsible building practices and value sustainable development. An SNBS certified building has the following benefits:
- Higher market attractiveness: Properties that meet the SNBS standard are particularly attractive for buyers and investors who value sustainability. This can lead to a better positioning in the market and increased demand. In the case of commercial properties in particular, certification offers the advantage that renting companies can publish reliable values in their sustainability report.
- increase in value: Sustainably built properties often have higher value stability, as they include future-oriented, energy-efficient and resource-saving construction methods.
- Lower operating costs: Sustainable construction practices, such as energy-efficient construction methods, can reduce operating costs in the long term.
Three pillars of sustainability at SNBS
- Environmental sustainability: This area aims to reduce the environmental impact of constructing and operating buildings. This includes careful use of resources, reduction of CO₂ emissions and energy-efficient construction.
- Economic sustainability: The aim is to increase the value of the property in the long term. The SNBS attaches great importance to reducing operating costs and making sustainable investments in the building fabric in order to make the property attractive and profitable for future generations as well.
- Social sustainability: The SNBS also includes the aspect of user-friendliness and social added value. A building should offer a high quality of life, be health-promoting and barrier-free, and promote the community.
Applying the SNBS standard
The SNBS standard is aimed at projects in residential and commercial buildings. Properties that comply with this standard must be audited and certified in accordance with the SNBS criteria. The SNBS can therefore act as Quality seal for sustainable construction and is particularly suitable for construction projects that seek added value through ecological and social aspects.
